Update
(I see my sister has been posting information for us on her blog. How nice!)
Esmé is doing quite well today. I was able to attempt nursing her. Yesterday afternoon the doctor was quite concerned because her breathing had become very labored throughout the day. They put her on an antibiotic through IV and are doing a blood culture to make sure there is no infection. So far the blood culture is not 'growing' anything so that is a good sign. The pediatrician this morning could barely hear the heart murmur which means it is improving. Esmé is beginning to be weaned off of the oxygen. Her condition changes quite rapidly. For example, yesterday I was supposed to be able to try nursing but then within hours we were not even allowed to hold her because of her breathing. Then in the morning the report was great. Please continue to remember us in prayer-it is so comforting to know that we are being prayed for!!!...especially when we leave her for the night.
Day 1

Day 2- Sisters get to see her all decked out in hospital gowns.

Keeping a close eye on the nurse.

Day 3-showing some temper...she is quite feisty and the night nurses are generally not impressed with her from about 11:00-3:00. This also corresponds with the time of her activity in utero! Hopefully this pattern changes by the time she comes home. :0)

He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom. Isaiah 40:11a This verse is so comforting when Esmé is left for the night. We know that God is with her and carrying her in 'His bosom' like a gentle shepherd.
In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul! Psalm 94:19

It must be hard to leave your baby at the hospital at nights, but you are getting extra rest and that will help you for when you do bring her home. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. God will give you all the stength you need during this time!

Rick and I are SO happy to hear that things are improving, we've been praying for you like crazy!
She is such a doll, and we can't wait to meet her.
I can't imagine how hard it is to leave your babe in the hospital, I hope soon you will be able to take her with you, what a blessed day that will be!

Well just looking at her and the strength she seems to have Shouts to me that God is her Strength, and that he will carry her during this time as well as your family! I can't help but cry when I see her with all those tubes on such a small body! God is so Great, she is certainly a miracle/gift from God! We pray that you may take her home soon, what a glorious day that will be(maybe not if she up still between 11-3!!) We pray for you constantly, and if there is anything you need be sure to give us a call we would love to help anyway we can!!!

Thanks for the update Mel! I'm sure you're exhausted with all your trips back and forth from the hospital, and trying to keep up a normal life for your other girls too... all while trying to recover from natural childbirth too! We're praying that God will give you lots of strength. I'm so glad that Esme was doing well today - she looks like she has lots of energy in that one picture... what a cutie-pie! Well I don't know about you, but I can't read all these posts from everyone without crying!

Thanks for the update...got to agree with the others, it must be hard to leave your baby (but you hopefully can get some rest) and reading this all brings me to tears too. We pray that she will continue to improve and that you have the strength to be there for Esme and Mia & Ksena.
